Shadowrun is a great RPG, but it can be heavy on the rules side. Keeping track off all the stats can be a big mental overload, especially in the middle combat scenes.
To help unload some of this burden, I have made game aides. Their job is to help me to manage essential combat stats, like turn and initiative information as well as the health of the characters.
There are two different aids that I use in my games. The combat resolution sheet and combat monitor slips.
When the game session ends your thoughts are still in the game and particularly on the next game if you are a game master. Where is the story going, how can I develop my character? Why was the GM grinning he told us that we are going in Chicago? Where can I get inspiration?
In the days of the mighty Internet there are plenty of sources to choose from but if you don’t have the time or want to dive into the rat-hole of Shadowrun forums (like the official one and Dumpshock) and you want something digestible and condensed you might want to try some Shadowrun themed podcasts.
My list might not be the most comprehensive but it includes some very well made podcasts that offer content and are in general very well produced. If you play or run Shadowrun, have a listen to these podcasts. They are free and all you have to lose is your precious time.
Shadowrun is a great role-playing game with a long history. The first edition of the game was published in 1989. It has carried a story of a dystopian world for 24 years now. It is set in (now alternate history) and in future Earth where nation states are all but powerless and corporations run the world. The player characters are the renegades, the outcasts of this world, running clandestine operations in the shadows.
Along with the core rules and supplemental books, the game studios making Shadowrun over the years have published ready made campaigns and adventures. Shadowrun Missions (SRM) are a series of such adventures.
Ropecon, the biggest roleplaying convention in Finland ended on sunday. The official word is that the convention had over 3600 attendees.
Shadowrun is a fantastic roleplaying game that mixes the familiar fantasy roleplaying games such as D&D with the dystopian future that is just around the corner à la Cyberpunk.
The players typically take the role of a shadowrunner, or an ostracized member of the society that are infiltrating the big bad corporations. Hoping to survive, hoping to make money.
I finally had the chance to run Shadowrun this sunday. I only had one player for this session and I was a bit worried whether I could make the game interesting. Initially I felt it really needed at least two players with four being ideal. As it turns out, it went very well.
